Why you can trust the score
We adjust for uncertainty
A handful of responses shouldn't top a list by chance. We pull thin evidence toward the national average, and each health centre's page states how many responses are behind its score.
We say honestly when we don't know
If too few patients responded we give no score at all – we'd rather say “too few responses” than show a number that looks exact but isn't.
The whole method is open
We're independent, we don't track you, and no clinic can buy a better ranking. Anyone can check our maths.

Common questions about Vårdbetyg
- What is Vårdbetyg?
- Vårdbetyg is independent ratings of Swedish healthcare, built on open data. It combines open public data into a single score for 1 200 health centres, and also rates emergency departments and specialist clinics. It is free and is not run by any care provider or government agency.
- Where do the scores come from?
- The basis is the National Patient Survey 2025 (SKR), where patients rate how they experienced their health centre, and monthly waiting-time statistics from the National Board of Health and Welfare. Both sources are open and verifiable.
- How is the Vårdbetyg calculated?
- For health centres, patient experience counts for 70 percent and accessibility (waiting times) for 30. The score is adjusted for how many responded: a centre with few responses is pulled toward the national average and cannot top the lists by chance. Specialist and emergency clinics have no comparable per-clinic waiting-time statistics, so their scores rest on patient experience alone. The whole method is openly documented.
- Can I register with a health centre via Vårdbetyg?
- No, the actual switch is done via 1177 or directly at the centre. Vårdbetyg is the decision support: compare health centres here, then complete the choice where you normally do.
