Few responses are pulled toward the average
The fewer patients who responded, the closer to the national average the score lands. A clinic with a handful of happy responses therefore does not end up on top by chance. The number of responses is shown next to every score.
No score on too little evidence
If too few patients responded we give no score at all, because an average of a few responses mostly depends on who happened to answer. The clinic's page then says “too few responses”.
The whole method is open
The method and the weights are published and the underlying data is open, so anyone can recompute the score. No clinic can pay for a better ranking.

Common questions about Vårdbetyg
- What is Vårdbetyg?
- Vårdbetyg is an independent, free service that rates Swedish healthcare from open public data. 1 192 health centres have a rating, and the service also rates emergency departments and specialist clinics. Vårdbetyg is not run by any care provider or government agency.
- What is a health centre (vårdcentral)?
- A health centre, vårdcentral in Swedish, is where you go first for most health problems in Sweden, much like a GP practice in the UK. You choose which one you are registered with, and you can change, via 1177 or at the health centre itself.
- Where do the scores come from?
- The basis is the National Patient Survey 2025, run by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKR), where patients rate how they experienced their health centre, and waiting-time statistics from the National Board of Health and Welfare, published every month. Both sources are open, so the figures can be checked.
- How is the Vårdbetyg calculated?
- For health centres, patient experience counts for 70 percent and accessibility (waiting times) for 30. The score is adjusted for how many responded, so a centre with few responses is pulled toward the national average and cannot top the lists by chance. Specialist and emergency clinics have no comparable per-clinic waiting-time statistics, so their scores rest on patient experience alone. The whole method is openly documented.
- Can the scores be trusted?
- The scores are built on answers from patients who received the National Patient Survey after a visit and, where data exists, on waiting times. No freely submitted reviews are involved. No clinic can buy a better placement, and when too few patients have responded we publish no score at all. Keep in mind what the score measures: patient experience and how quickly people get contact and an assessment, not medical treatment outcomes.
- Can I register with a health centre via Vårdbetyg?
- No. You register via 1177 or directly at the health centre. Here you can compare health centres before you choose.
- What is the difference between an award and a seal?
- A health centre earns an award for free, only through its results in the open data, and an award can never be bought. It is what you see on a health centre's page, for example Top 10% in Sweden. A seal is a paid licence that lets a health centre with an award show it as a badge on its website or in the waiting room, with a link back here where anyone can check it. Money never changes who gets an award, and a health centre that does not pay keeps its own.
